Author Guidelines

Language and length

Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English using clear and consistent academic language. Articles are generally 2,000–5,000 words and 7–15 A4 pages, including tables and figures, in accordance with the MESIL template. These requirements should be applied consistently in both the template and the Author Guidelines page.

General format

Use A4 paper, 3 cm margins on all sides, Times New Roman 12 pt for the main text, and single spacing. Titles should be concise and informative, no more than 17 words, bold, and in 14 pt type. List each author’s full name without academic titles, affiliation, and the corresponding author’s email address. To support double-blind review, upload an anonymised manuscript as instructed by the system and provide author identities in metadata or a separate file where required.

Title, abstract, and keywords

The title should be concise and informative in the main language of the manuscript; a translated title may be included in the other language. The abstract must be provided in both Indonesian and English. Each abstract should contain 150–300 words and cover the background, objective, method, principal findings, and main conclusion or implication. Provide no more than five keywords per language; choose specific terms representing the topic and research method.

Structure of research articles

An original research article should generally follow this order: Title; Abstract and Keywords in both languages; Introduction; Research Methods; Results and Discussion; Conclusion; Acknowledgements (if applicable); relevant funding or conflict-of-interest statements; and References. Review articles and other manuscript types may use a structure suited to their purpose, with editorial guidance where necessary.

Citations and references

Use IEEE style with numerical citations in square brackets, such as [1] or [2], [3]. References must be ordered by first citation, not alphabetically. Include at least 10 relevant references; at least 80% of cited sources should preferably have been published within the previous 10 years, except where classic sources or necessary standards are used. Every reference-list entry must be cited in the text, and every in-text citation must appear in the reference list. Use a reference manager where possible.

Tables, figures, units, and equations

Every table and figure must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively, and supplied with a clear title or caption and source when derived from another work. Ensure that figures are legible and permissions have been obtained where required. Use SI units consistently. Write equations using an equation editor and number them when cited in the text.

Manuscript quality and ethics

Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal. Authors must disclose conflicts of interest, funding sources, ethical approval where required, and use of AI tools in accordance with relevant policies. Use the latest MESIL template, complete the submission checklist, and submit through OJS by providing the required metadata and files.
