Manuscript Types
Type considered
MESIL considers the following manuscript types, if they fit the journal’s aims and scope:
- Original Research Article: reports original research, experiments, modelling, simulation, measurements, technical surveys, or analysis with adequate methods, results, and discussion.
- Review Article: critically and systematically synthesises relevant literature. The search and selection methods should be described in a manner appropriate to the type of review.
- Short Communication/Brief Report: presents an important technical finding in a concise form without compromising the adequacy of the supporting evidence.
- Technical Note/Methods Paper describes a useful and assessable improvement to equipment, procedures, testing methods, analytical techniques, or engineering applications.
- Engineering Case Study: analyses a real case or application of an engineering system using methods and lessons that can be cautiously considered beyond the individual case.
Types subject to editorial approval
Letters to the Editor or Scholarly Commentaries may be considered when they substantively address a published article or a relevant scholarly issue and are approved by the editor. Editorials are generally commissioned by invitation. These categories are not automatically open for submission in every issue.
Eligibility and structure
All manuscripts are assessed for relevance, integrity, clarity of contribution, adequacy of methods and evidence, and quality of presentation. Structural and length requirements may be adapted to the manuscript type and editorial instructions.
